ABB recently added the ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations division to its service delivery project
at a large paper mill in East Java, Indonesia.
The site produces a variety of printing and writing papers, other paper-related products, and packaging products
including cardboard boxes.
With an annual capacity of 320,000 metric tons, the plant is one of
the largest single stationery producers in the world.
It is understood that automated production needs to process a large amount of data
.
As complexity increases, so does the amount of data
.
Collaborative operations help paper producers effectively use this data to identify and resolve production, quality, and cost issues
that can inhibit optimal performance.
This improves the return on capital
.
Collaborative operations helps maximize business value
by turning data insights into direct action.
At the plant, Collaborative Operations shortens cycle times for product grade changes, resulting in higher yields
.
It also uses multivariate predictive control to stabilize moisture and other additive levels
.
Specific improvements include increased throughput
due to higher equipment availability, less paper breakage, lower chemical costs and lower paper quality variations.
These improvements can improve product quality and consistency, reduce scrap rates and sales
.
The project builds on ABB's 15-year history of providing traditional and advanced services to the plant
.
Collaborative operations enhance ABB's ability to positively impact day-to-day plant operations, ensuring that the results achieved over the years are sustained and improved
.
ABB has three collaborative operations centers in Finland, the United States and Singapore, as well as many more serving customers
in other industry sectors.
All three pulp and paper centers are likely to be involved in providing advanced services
to the mill.
ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations is a true IoT application that is part of
the company's portfolio of ABB AbilityTM digital solutions.
Collaborative Operations provides performance management, remote monitoring, and preventative analytics techniques to improve safety, efficiency, and productivity
across industries.
The ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Center connects people at enterprise-wide production facilities and headquarters with ABB's technology and expertise
