According to WindEurope, the European wind power association, most wind turbine and component manufacturing plants in Europe are operating, and 96% of them are engaged in production activities
.
In an update related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the economy, the industry group said that closed manufacturing bases are mainly located in Spain and Italy
.
Both countries follow the strictest lockdown measures
.
In Spain, the closed plants include the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (BME:SGRE) blade production facility in Aoiz and two blade plants
at LM Wind Power in Castellon and Leon.
Meanwhile, Italy's eTa Blades has closed its manufacturing facility in Fano, Italy, and Celme and its transformer plant in Montebello Vicentino have also closed
.
WindEurope noted that the entire European supply chain is suffering from restrictions on the free movement of goods and workers caused by the spread of the coronavirus, adding that the situation creates uncertainty
for energy policy and the economy as a whole.
On the other hand, however, WindEurope pointed out that the supply of parts and materials from China, which was interrupted last month, has now gradually recovered
with the effective control of the epidemic in China.
