Kenya's energy minister said a 428km high-voltage power line would deliver electricity from a 310-megawatt wind farm to central Kenya in northern Kenya and would stabilize power in December, replacing diesel
.
428 km of high-voltage power lines completed Kenya's grid will add 310 megawatts of electricity
428 km, 400 kV high-voltage power lines are crucial
to the Lake Turkana wind power project.
Power lines transport electricity from Royangarani in the north to Mount Suvawa in the centre
.
Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems is a supplier
of 365 turbines for the wind farm.
Last year, Vestas said the wind farm was ready to go live, but the power lines had been idle until they were deployed
.
"Now all that remains is the formal commissioning
of power plants and transmission lines.
" Energy Secretary Charles Keter said
during a field visit to the transmission station that receives the electricity.
"This is a very important project
.
In the next month, once the power lines are working well, we will feel the difference
.
The future will see a reduction
in electricity costs.
”
Construction of the high-voltage power line began in November 2015 and was originally scheduled to be completed in December last year, but was again postponed until September
this year.
Kenya said in June that more than 6.
5 million customers across the country were connected to the grid, with 2,351 MW of installed power generation capacity and 1,802 MW of peak demand
