A company spokesperson revealed on Wednesday, March 25 that two employees and two contract workers working at BASF's Geismar plant have tested positive for COVID-19
.
BASF has been closely monitoring the situation since the four workers began self-isolating more than a week ago, the company said
.
BASF senior communications manager Blythe Lamonica said medical staff had notified all workers who may have come into contact with the four COVID-19-positive workers
.
Those who had direct contact with the four coronavirus-positive workers were already in self-isolation, Lamonica said
.
The company said the area where the infected person worked was deep cleaned
.
"Our on-site medical team has been and will continue to be in contact with the company of employees and contractors," Lamonica said
.
BASF said that during the pandemic, it operates in accordance with local, state and federal government guidelines and has a pandemic response plan in place
.
The company said it had implemented "enhanced health measures" by restricting access to the facility, checking workers' temperatures, urging employees to keep their distance, and disinfecting buses and work areas
.
BASF is well aware of the concerns that may arise from the current difficult situation
