As important pollinators, bees play a fundamental role in the pollination of natural ecosystems and crops, connecting the ecological environment with the human food cha.

For the study, the researchers used the Megares resistance gene database to analyze the metagenomes of honeybee gut sampl.

It is worth noting that strA and sul2 genes are widely present in the honeybee gut, and these genes together form a gene fragment with high homology to the IncQ plasmid, which may be caused by the integration of the exogenous IncQ plasmid fragment into the honeybee gut bacteria geno.

This study demonstrated for the first time the ability of honeybee gut bacteria to enrich and spread antibiotic resistance genes, and proposed that honeybees can be used as a new model animal to study the spread and evolution mechanism of antibiotic resistance genes in gut microb.
