Xenotransplantation, the root cause of the ineffectiveness of some cancer drugs |

Researchers at the University of Texas at Houston have discovered many potential reasons why anticancer drugs that kill tumor cells in mouse models do not work in human trials-xenotransplantation (PDX).
Preclinical evaluation of potential therapeutic effects using in vivo and in vitro platforms is essential for the development of successful cancer treatments.
In this study, the researchers reported the widespread presence of mouse viruses in patient-derived xenotransplants.
The researchers used a data-driven approach to analyze 184 data sets generated by sequencing xenograft samples.
"When scientists used xenograft models to find a way to kill tumors, they assumed that the tumors in the mice were the same as those in cancer patients, but that was not the case.
The authors hope that this discovery can change the way researchers seek to kill tumor cells.
