The rapid movement of plants has always been of interest to scientists and nature lovers, because compared to animals, plants generally show people in a fixed static posture, with few active actions or behaviors
    .

Notable plant movements include the specialized leaves of the Venus flytrap, the insect traps of Uricaria , and the mimosa plant, known for the touch sensitivity of its leaves .

In order to explore the trigger factors of touch sensitivity in the corolla , the researchers conducted a series of experiments on a natural population of Gentiana clarkei (the average flower closure time was 27 seconds) .

The results suggest that wind is unlikely to be a selective pressure for gentian floral touch sensitivity ; nibbling by large animals also has little effect on the behavior of its corolla .
However, in observations of pollinators, the researchers found " illegal visits " to flowers by multiple species of bumblebees .
The bumblebee lays its relatively large body on the corolla, stretches its head to the base of the outer side of the corolla tube, pierces the opening and steals the nectar .

The relevant research results were published online in Science Bulletin with the title of " Touch induces rapid floral closure in gentians " .

Professor Dai Can of Hubei University and researcher Wang Qingfeng of Wuhan Botanical Garden are the co- corresponding authors of the paper .
Research work is getting a second plateau Integrated Branch science test observation study ( 2019QZKK0502 ) , Hubei Province Natural Science Foundation of China ( 2019CFA066 ) projects such support .
