Nanhu News Network (correspondent Wu Honghong) Recently, the research group of Professor Wu Honghong from the School of Plant Science and Technology of our school has made new progress in the research on the mechanism of cerium oxide nanoparticles to improve the salt tolerance of cotton, and summarized how to apply nano-biotechnology to improve plant performance
Salt stress is one of the main limiting factors affecting the efficient production of crops
Cerium oxide nanoparticles promote the retention of K+ and the efflux of Na+ in the leaves, instead of Na+ vacuole storage, and maintain the sodium and potassium steady state, thereby improving the salt tolerance of cotton
In the research paper "Cerium oxide nanoparticles improve cotton salt tolerance by enabling better ability to maintain cytosolic K+/Na+ ratio", after applying PNC to the leaves, compared with the control group, the salt tolerance of cotton was significantly improved, which showed a higher chlorophyll content.
The qPCR results showed that HKT1 (up-regulated) and KOR (down-regulated) were key genes to increase Na+ outflow and K+ retention in PNC-treated cotton leaves under salt stress, respectively
Application of nano sensor elements to help early diagnosis and self-management of crop stress
In the review article "Recent advances in nano-enable agriculture for improving plant performance", nano-materials are used to systematically improve crop resistance, nano-sensing elements and early diagnosis of stress, targeted transport and slow-controlled release of nano-materials, and nano-technology mediation.
