Intern reporter Sun Mingyuan, Science and Technology Daily

Every September 29th is World Heart Day established by the World Heart Alliance.

In terms of heart-healthy diet, "salt reduction" is an old and difficult problem

Feng Kaili, a doctoral student at the Peking Union Medical College School of Nutrition and Epidemiology of cardiovascular disease, told the Science and Technology Daily that some existing studies have shown the side effects of salt reduction, but these studies do not deny the necessity of salt reduction

"I personally believe that it is still reasonable and necessary for the general population to limit salt to a certain extent based on the current excessively high salt intake level, for example, to reduce it from more than 10 grams per day to a level of 8-9 grams.

"As for the salt reduction methods and the goal of salt reduction that can maximize benefits and minimize risks for the entire population or each subpopulation, research is still needed

At present, the recommended daily salt intake for adults in the 2021 version of the Chinese Resident Dietary Guidelines is 6 grams.

Feng Kaili added that nutrition is a science that pays attention to balance and collocation.
