Researchers from the University of Warwick and the University of Tartu in Estonia studied the relationship between personality, genes and sleep types (sleep patterns)
People with strong sense of responsibility and low openness prefer to get up early; lower-level personality characteristics, such as self-discipline, pursuit of excitement, and straightforwardness, are also related to time types
This is partly caused by genetic factors, but if you want to be an early riser, but currently a late sleeper, then your sleep pattern can be changed
Researchers from the Department of Psychology at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom have discovered links between personality levels, sleep patterns and even genes
A typical "morning person" is considered to be someone who wakes up naturally at 6 am, jogs, bathes, eats breakfast, and is ready to work efficiently by 9 am
Researchers from the University of Warwick and colleagues from the University of Tartu recently published a paper in the Journal of Personality entitled "Personality characteristics in phenotypes and genes "Personality Traits Relate to Chronotype in the Phenotypic and Genetic Level" (Personality Traits Relate to Chronotype in the Phenotypic and Genetic Level)
In the end, the researchers discovered that the relationship between personality and "early-late" is partly caused by genetic factors
Through a large-scale sample survey of participants in the Estonian Biobank, the researchers asked them to answer a questionnaire about sleep time and personality.
However, they were also able to calculate genetic correlations through summary statistics from a large genome-wide association study of personality and sleep preferences
Personality can be divided into three levels: personality domains, aspects and projects.
On one level, the researchers found that people who are less direct (the affinity side) and those who seek excitement (the extroverted side), and the more disciplined side (the conscientious side) are more likely to have the Early time type
Dr.
"Our findings helped us propose two possible ways of how personalities affect time types
"However, it is also possible that time type affects personality, or time type and personality affect each other
Anu Realo, a professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Warwick, added:
"We have not only proved that there is a connection between sleep type, personality and some genes, but the results of the study also show that it is possible to change your sleep type, or at least train yourself to develop a different and more socially friendly way by enhancing self-control.
