World Cancer Day is held every year on 4 February.
The Number of new cancer cases is expected to increase significantly in the coming decades, with the number of new cases worldwide expected to increase by nearly 50% by 2040 compared with 2020, with low- and middle-income countries seeing the largest increase, the World Health Organization said.
WHO's noncommunicable diseases department official Andre Irbavi told the media on the 2nd, according to data released by the organization in December 2020, 19.3 million people worldwide will be diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and 10 million will die from cancer.
cancer is now the world's second leading cause of death.
WHO expects a significant increase in new cancer cases in the coming decades, with a 47 per cent increase globally by 2040 compared to 2020, with the largest increase in low- and middle-income countries.
cancer has a huge economic impact, and the global economic burden of cancer is estimated to total about $1.16 trillion in 2010, a number that will continue to rise.
the new crown outbreak has far-reaching implications for cancer control efforts, including delays in diagnosis, interruption or abandonment of treatment, cuts in research and clinical trials, mr. Irbavi said.
low- and middle-income countries, late-stage cancer diagnosis, lack of quality and affordable diagnostic and treatment services have become common, especially during outbreaks.
more than 40 per cent of cancer treatment in the countries covered by the survey was interrupted by the outbreak, according to a WHO 2020 survey.
people with noncommunicable diseases, including cancer, face a higher risk of new coronary sepsis and death.
WHO reminds the public that about one third of cancer deaths are due to smoking, high body mass index, low fruit and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity and alcohol consumption, of which smoking is the most important risk factor for cancer.
, non-smoking, regular exercise, healthy eating, and avoiding harmful alcohol use are all effective cancer prevention methods.
, many cancers still have a greater chance of cure thanks to early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
