The "innovative drugs" described below are defined as the original drugs whose generic names are approved in China for the first time, including imported original drugs, as well as applications for old chemical drugs 1.

According to the statistics of the China Pharmaceutical Industry Information Center, the number of generic names of innovative drugs approved in China in 2021 is as high as 68.
The detailed list is shown in Table 1
.

This number can be said to be the peak of approved innovative drugs in China's history (see Figure 1), and the growth rate of the number of approved drugs in 2020 has reached 50%!

From the perspective of companies, we can see that there are 13 companies that have approved more than one innovative drug in 2021 (see Figure 2)
.

Among them, [Novartis], [Roche], [Wuxi WuXi], and [Jiangsu Hengrui] are the "excellent students" with the largest number of approved innovative drugs, and they have all approved three innovative drugs.

It is worth noting that among the 68 approved innovative drugs, 17 were successfully included in the medical insurance that year (see Figure 3).

From the perspective of the approved proportion of innovative drugs, the proportion of domestic innovative drugs approved in 2021 will hit a record high, reaching 42.

From the perspective of the company, in addition to the [Wuxi WuXi] and [Jiangsu Hengrui] just mentioned, [Zhejiang Haizheng] and [Rongchang Biotechnology] are also outstanding local "excellent students"

They have all approved a number of innovative drugs in 2021 (see Figure 5), including many domestic breakthrough drugs, such as Wuxi WuXi's first domestic PDL1 monoclonal antibody sugelimumab, and Rongchang Bio's first domestic ADC The drug Vidicitumab

In addition, [Jiangsu Hengrui] and [Jiangsu Xuantai] not only gained a lot in the field of innovative drugs, but also made achievements in the field of improved new chemical drugs, and were approved for pregabalin sustained-release tablets and posaconazole enteric-coated tablets respectively.
