German chemical group WACKER announced on December 18th that it would expand its silicone rubber production capacity worldwide. WACKER aims to better meet the growing demand for silicone rubber in key industries such as automotive manufacturing, electronics and medical technology worldwide through this expansion. Wacker's silicone business unit has further implemented its strategy of expanding its specialty product portfolio through this investment initiative,
china
.
plans to gradually increase the total annual production capacity of specialty silicone rubber by 40,000 tons by 2021 by expanding several production sites, and to allocate about 100 million euros in investment funds for this purpose.
will significantly improve the supply and customer service of silicone rubber products in the near future by expanding production capacity upstream and in the final production phase. The expansion will benefit all product ranges in WACKER's solid silicone sector. In April, WACKER opened a new production site for silicone sealants and thermally conductive silicone mixtures in Zhenchuan, South Korea. WACKER's joint venture silicone production site in Amtala, India, has also begun production of room temperature-cured silicone elastomers and liquid silicone rubber.
Chemical Group plans to expand the production capacity of liquid silicone rubber, high temperature and room temperature cured silicone rubber and thermally conductive silicone mixtures in 2019 in Borghausen (Germany), Adrian (Michigan, U.S.) and Zhangjiagang (China). WACKER is currently considering and researching the construction of a solid silicone production line at its Charleston, Tennessee, U.S. production site. WACKER has been producing polysilicon at its Charleston site since 2016. The site will also begin operating a production line next year for gas-phase silica, an important filler needed to produce solid silicone rubber.
