    Vietnam's clam exports account for 73% of shellfish exports

    From SeafoodNews on September 28, Vietnamese clams are the leading product of shellfish exports, accounting for 73% of the export share, and the export value in 2021 will reach 103 million US dollars, an increase of 52%
    over 2020.
     
    The Prime Minister of Viet Nam has issued Decision No.
    339/QD-TTg, approving the Vietnam's Fisheries Development Strategy aimed at the comprehensive development
    of the entire fishery from fishing and aquaculture to seafood processing and trade.
     
    The Prime Minister also issued Decision No.
    1664/QD-TTg, approving the development of marine aquaculture projects by 2030, with a special focus on the development of
    fish and molluscs (e.

    clams, oysters, mussels, scallops).
     
    The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Viet Nam and local self-government groups, among others, are concentrating on developing the molluscs industry

    As of 2016, the molluscs development plan has been revised and supplemented
    several times.
     
    In 2021, shellfish exports reached nearly $142 million, an increase of 35%
    over 2020.
    This year, molluscs exports recorded double-digit growth, maintaining an average of
    22%-82%.
     
    Last year, Vietnam's clam exports amounted to nearly $103 million, up 52% from 2020, the second largest export was snails, accounting for 10%, exports exceeded $14 million, an increase of 3%, followed by scallop products, scallops accounted for 8%, exports reached 11 million US dollars, up 13%, the rest are oyster products, mussels, abalone and other mixed varieties
    .
     
    In 2021, Vietnam exports shellfish products to more than 50 markets, with Spain being the largest single market for shellfish in Vietnam at 18%, followed by Italy and the United States at 17%, Portugal at 15% and Japan at 8%.

     
    By 2030, the area of shellfish culture in Vietnam will reach 43,000-45,000 hectares, and the output will reach 500,000-520,000 tons, and high-tech will play an important role
    in aquaculture.
