(People's Daily) In the first quarter of 2022, the export market of aquatic products gradually recovered and achieved impressive growth.
Most of the export commodities grew at a high speed, with a total export value of 2.
4 billion US dollars, an increase of 38.
7% over the same period in 2021 .
The export volume and export value of shrimp , fish and other products have increased significantly .

According to the evaluation of the Aquaculture Department of the General Administration of Fisheries, in the first quarter of 2022, aquaculture went smoothly, and the aquaculture area increased sharply
    .
However, the first quarter of the seafood fishing field was not smooth due to the complex evolution of the weather at sea
    .
In particular, the cost of fishing at sea has increased, especially the continued surge in gasoline prices, resulting in low development efficiency
    .

At the same time, the prices of fished aquatic products have not increased, and even the prices of some aquatic products have dropped compared with the same period in 2021, making many shipowners reluctant to go out to sea for fishing, and fishing boats have been grounded in many places
    .
According to the report of the General Administration of Fisheries, in the first three months of 2022, the output of aquatic products reached nearly 1.
9 million tons, an increase of 2.
4% over the same period in 2021.
Among them, the output of fishing aquatic products was 875,000 tons (down 1.
2%), and the output of cultured aquatic products reached 995,000 tons (up 5.
    9%)
    .

On the basis of the recovery trend since the end of 2021, the export value of aquatic products in the first 3 months maintained steady growth, reaching 2.
4 billion US dollars, an increase of 38.
7% over the same period in 2021
    .
The above results mainly come from the fact that fish and shrimp are still recovering strongly and achieving amazing breakthroughs
    .
In the first three months of 2022, the export value of Chayu will reach 646 million US dollars, an increase of 88% compared with the same period in 2021
    .
Good growth in shrimp exports to major markets such as the US, EU, Japan, South Korea, China, and the UK in the first few months of 2022
    .

Among them, the United States continues to be the largest import market for Vietnam’s shrimp, accounting for 21% of Vietnam’s shrimp export value
    .
In the post-COVID-19 period, the U.
    S.
market has reopened, and the import demand for aquatic products, including shrimp, has continued to increase
    .
Vietnam has become the fourth largest shrimp exporter to the United States after India, Ecuador and Indonesia, and shrimp exports to China are also showing a recovery trend
    .
It is estimated that the annual shrimp export will reach about 4 billion US dollars, an increase of 3%
    .

The Russian-Ukrainian conflict has more or less affected the export of aquatic products in these two markets, although the Russian-Ukrainian market only accounts for a small proportion of Vietnam's aquatic product exports
    .
However, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has caused gasoline prices and many other raw materials to rise, affecting the cost and profit of enterprises
    .
For example, in the Russian market, Vietnam’s export of aquatic products to Russia exceeds US$160 million (accounting for 3% of Vietnam’s aquatic product exports)
    .
When the conflict broke out, exports to Russia, such as lack of transport ships and high fees, were suspended due to the risk of banking transactions
    .

Currently, Vietnamese companies are closely tracking the situation and dealing with inventories or finding measures to export to other markets
    .
Du Liye, chairman of Navico Group, said that in addition to the Russian market, when China implemented the "zero new crown" policy, the export of chaff to the Chinese market encountered bottlenecks
    .
In addition, the continuous rise in transportation costs caused by the current surge in world oil prices is also a difficulty that many aquatic product exporters will face for a long time in the future
    .

At the April 2022 and second quarter planning and task deployment meetings held in early April, Chen Tinglun, director of the General Administration of Fisheries, believed that the production and export of aquatic products had improved in the first quarter
    .
However, sustainable growth has not yet been achieved, as input costs continue to trend upward
    .

In order to implement the established tasks and plans, Director-General Chen Tinglun suggested focusing on the implementation of several core tasks, such as the development of aquatic products, setting up inspection teams, and inspecting the responsibilities of various localities, aiming to urge and guide the implementation of overcoming the European Commission (EC) yellow card warning task
    .
Continue to track, guide, and deal with deficiencies in the development of aquatic product certificates and the management of fishing vessels in Hong Kong, so as to ensure that seafood export activities are not affected and take measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing vessels and lift the yellow card Warning
    .

In order to overcome the difficulties in Russia, Ukraine and other markets, the Ministry of Agriculture and the General Administration of Fisheries will closely follow the situation, cooperate closely with various industry associations and the State Bank of Vietnam, aiming to provide enterprises that have exported products to Russia but financial transactions have stagnated.
    Funded
    .
At the same time, the Association for the Processing and Export of Aquatic Products (VASEP) will communicate and discuss measures to solve the current difficulties caused by the stagnation of the Russian and Ukrainian markets
    .
In 2022, the Agriculture, Forestry and Aquatic Products Quality Administration will also focus on the inadequacies of the Chinese and American markets, in order to find measures to diversify the export market of Vietnamese aquatic products
    .
