    According to the announcement issued by the FDA, in addition to detecting foodborne pathogens of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes , sampling "tasks" also include inspections, review of preventive control measures, and identification of possible sources and routes of contamination
    .
     
    The agency’s plan is to collect and test 240 samples of American cantaloupe, which have been pre-cut before being sold to end users (such as retailers, schools, and hospitals)

    The sample collection is scheduled to end in June 2022

    FDA inspectors are collecting cantaloupe samples from processors, warehouses and distribution centers
    .
    According to the FDA, unless inspectors have reason to believe that it is necessary, they will not test samples from packaging plants, plantations, or retail locations

    After collecting samples and laboratory tests, data analysis will be carried out

    The agency plans to release a summary report, but the specific release date has not yet been determined

    In 2011, the cantaloupe on the Jensen Farm in Colorado caused an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes, causing at least 147 people to become ill and at least 33 of them died

      This 28-state epidemic has caused illnesses for people under the age of 1 to 96
    .
