for Ukrainian agriculture and sorghum crops.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries plans to draw up a list
of Ukrainian enterprises exporting sorghum to China.
Leonardo Olivera, head of the Agricultural Service Department of the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Agriculture and Fisheries, said that "this is a great achievement" and that after two years of hard work, the negotiations have finally ended, and they are satisfied with this result, just waiting for the official signing of the agreement
.
Negotiations began in 2018, when China sent Ukraine relevant technical information for the preparation of pest risk analysis
.
After a series of technical exchanges, Uruguay extended its sorghum export credentials for human consumption in 2021 and reached a consensus with China on a
list of priority quarantine pests.
In August last year, China's animal and plant quarantine authorities notified the text of the Protocol on Basic Requirements for Phytosanitary Quarantine to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries of Uganda, agreeing to open sorghum exports
to China.
In early 2022, China provided a first draft of the phytosanitary export protocol, and Ukraine submitted the final phytosanitary protocol
after consultations with private enterprises producing and exporting sorghum in the technical field.
