A survey conducted by Brazil's public health system, which shows that on average two out of every three teenagers drink sugary drinks, was released on Tuesday by Brazil's Nutrition and Dietece Regulatory System, which is based on data for 2018.
researchers interviewed 80,438 teenagers, of whom 52,838 said they drank sugary drinks, or 66 percent of the total, including sodas, juices and iced tea.
69 percent (55,316 people) said they would eat fruit, and 68 percent of teens had a habit of eating while watching TV.
2016, the World Health Organization called for higher taxes on sugary drinks, such as sodas, in an effort to reduce consumption of such drinks.
The World Health Organization believes that if taxes on sugary drinks were increased by 20 per cent, consumption would be reduced by 20 per cent and if taxes were increased by 50 per cent, consumption would be reduced by 50 per cent.
data show that adolescents under the age of 19 who are overweight are 89 percent more likely to be overweight by the time they are 35 years old, " said Addo Addo, head of the Nutrition and Dieting Center at the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
we have always stressed the importance of a healthy and moderate diet for children and adolescents in order to avoid future overweight.
