According to incomplete statistics, an average of 5 to 12 million eye injuries occur in China every year
Recently, Professor Yan Hua, head of the Ophthalmology Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association of Tianjin Medical University, teamed up with multidisciplinary experts to establish the world’s first VisionGo based on more than 20 years of clinical and basic research on the treatment of complex ocular trauma.
Complicated eye trauma faces the problem of "blind cut"
Ocular trauma is caused by mechanical, physical, chemical and other factors that directly affect the eye, causing damage to the structure and function of the eye
Yan Hua introduced that complex eye injuries are not only harmful, but also very complicated and difficult to treat
Through the collection and research of a large number of complicated eye trauma cases across the country, Yan Hua’s team found that the reasons for the loss of vision include optic nerve damage, thick vitreous hemorrhage, hemorrhage or detachment of the retina and subchoroid, and central retinal artery and vein occlusion and so on
"However, for patients with no light perception after complicated ocular trauma, only a small number of people can restore vision above light perception after surgery.
Vision prediction system can guide doctors in surgery
To this end, Yan Hua's team and multidisciplinary experts have jointly established the world's first VisionGo vision prediction system based on machine learning technology
Machine learning is a subfield of artificial intelligence, and its personalized prediction has been verified with high accuracy in the outcome and prognosis prediction of a variety of diseases
Yan Hua's team united 14 research centers across the country, collected the original clinical data of patients with complex ocular trauma and no light perception in each center in the past 10 years through the medical record system, and then normalized and formatted the data to fill in the missing parts Based on the data, China’s largest ocular traumatic eye database has been established so far
The team built the VisionGo vision prediction system through detailed analysis and processing of these samples, using machine learning methods
After inputting the clinical characteristics of the patient with ocular trauma into the prediction system, the system will analyze the possibility of the patient regaining light perception after vitrectomy through a series of algorithm analysis, and can also analyze the clinical characteristics of the patient Will play a key role in this vision outcome
“For the eyeballs that are predicted to be able to restore light vision, doctors use vitrectomy to treat the key clinical features symptomatically during the operation, which can make the eyes without light perception get a better vision prognosis

my country's ocular trauma research has been at the forefront of the world
Over the past 20 years, China has made a series of breakthroughs in the research of ocular trauma.
In recent years, the team of Professor Yan Hua of Tianjin Medical University and the team of Professor Ma Zhizhong of Peking University have jointly conducted research and in-depth scientific research in the treatment of severe ocular trauma.
In order to make the treatment of ocular trauma more standardized in our country, the team leader Yan Hua and the experts and scholars of the Ophthalmology Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association jointly wrote the "Expert Consensus on Emergency Treatment of Ocular Trauma in China (2019)" and "Chinese Mechanical Eye The Expert Consensus on the Treatment of Traumatic Loss of Light Eyes (2020) and the "Expert Consensus on the Treatment of Intraocular Foreign Body in China (2021)" have greatly improved China's treatment level in these three areas
