The mortality rate caused by lung cancer is the highest of all malignant tumors, which seriously affects human survival and health

On August 23, 2022, The Peking University School of Basic Medical Sciences and the International Institute for Cancer of Peking University published a research paper

The researchers found that HOXB9, as an energy sensor, responds to the regulation of its own protein stability by receiving signal stimuli such as glucose, metformin, compound C, etc.

KRAS is one of the earliest discovered carcinogenic drivers, and there are currently breakthroughs in chemical drugs that effectively inhibit KRAS activation, and the expression level of KRAS is closely related

According to this, the researchers proposed a new model that connects cellular energy metabolism with the evolutionary process of lung cancer: the "AMPK-HOXB9-KRAS" regulatory axis regulates the progression of lung adenocarcinoma, thus for the first time using the transcription factor HOXB9 as a "link" to link glucose metabolism with Kras, proposing a new mechanism

Wang Tianzhuo, a doctoral candidate at Peking University School of Basic Medicine, is the first author of this paper, and Professor Zhang Hongquan and Associate Professor Zhan Jun (Lead contact) of Peking University School of Basic Medical Sciences and International Institute for Cancer are the corresponding authors
