The transforming growth factor β (TGF-β β) superfamily plays an important role
in cell differentiation and early embryonic development.

On September 22, 2022, Xi's Qiaoran Group at the School of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University published online in the journal Nucleic Acids Research entitled "LncRNA-Smad7 Regulates the Early Fate-Determination Process of Totipotent and pluripotent stem cells by mediating Nodal/TGF-β and BMP signaling pathways" TGF-β and BMP signaling to regulate cell fate determination of pluripotent and multipotent cells).

This study enriches the regulation of the TGF-β signaling pathway on the early development process, and finds that lncRNA-Smad7 can regulate the BMP signaling pathway in the early embryonic development process by binding to the promoter region of the Bmp2 gene, mediate the mutual regulation of Nodal/TGF-β and BMP signaling pathway, adjust the balance between the signaling pathways, and also reveal a new regulatory mechanism of
    lncRNA.

Associate Professor Xi Qiaoran of the School of Life Sciences of Tsinghua University is the corresponding author
    of this paper.

Figure: The Nodal signaling pathway transcription activates the expression of long-chain non-coding RNA lncRNA-Smad7, which binds to the promoter region of Bmp2, inhibits the transcriptional expression of Bmp2, and then regulates the differentiation process
of mouse embryonic stem cells to cardiomyocytes.
