News from SeafoodMedia on December 6 that the rock lobster industry in Western Australia has been certified as sustainable fisheries by the Marine Stewardship Council for the fifth time
.

The Western Australian Rock Lobster Fishery was first certified by the MSC in 2000 and has for the past 22 years met the MSC's criteria that the fishery must be able to demonstrate that it is sustainably managed with minimal impact on the environment, must comply with local laws and be able to adapt to changing environmental conditions

Since it was first certified in 2000, the fishery has reduced waste, with fewer catches but larger lobsters in size

In 2000, the average weight of lobsters was 1 kg, and by 2021, the average catch weight was 3.
