Recently, the winning project of the 2022 Guangdong Preventive Medicine Association Science and Technology Award was announced, and Professor Wang Cheng of the Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University as the first completer of the project "Research on Early Prevention and Intervention Strategies for Syphilis and Gonorrhea Infection" won the first prize of the Science and Technology Award of Guangdong Preventive Medicine Association
.
Syphilis and gonorrhea are important global public health problems, and have been included in the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases" in China under the management of Class B infectious diseases
.
Since 2009, the venereal disease prevention and treatment team of the Dermatology Hospital of Southern Medical University has carried out systematic research
on the epidemiology of syphilis and gonorrhea, health education, behavioral intervention strategies, and screening promotion models.
Among them, the series of research on the "syphilis self-test" strategy has attracted the attention of Nature Portfolio, a journal of Nature magazine, and highly praised the role of this strategy in curbing the global resurgence of syphilis.
The "crowdsourcing" intervention model has been included by the World Health Organization as part of the
global AIDS prevention and control strategy.
The implementation and application of this project is of great theoretical and practical significance
in effectively responding to the epidemic of syphilis and gonorrhea in our province, innovating syphilis and gonorrhea prevention and control strategies, and proposing the "Guangdong Model" for STD prevention and control that can be promoted.
