Foreign media news on November 30: Brazil's wheat production in 2022/23 will hit a new high
due to ideal weather conditions, increased fertilizer use and high interest from farmers to plant, a counsellor's report released by the U.
    S.
Department of Agriculture's Overseas Agricultural Directorate.

Most of Brazil's wheat is sown between April and September, and almost 90% of wheat is grown
in the southern Brazilian states of Parana and Rio Grande do Sul.
It is worth mentioning that Brazilian wheat is not planted during
the USDA market year (October to September).
But the harvest and export of Brazilian wheat is within the
    year.

    The U.
    S.
    Agricultural Counselor expects 3.
2 million hectares of Brazilian wheat in 2022/23 (October-September), with an estimated yield of 2.
9 mt/ha, and production expected to reach 9.
4 million mt, up from the previous forecast of 8.
    7 million mt
    .

    Brazil plans to become self-sufficient
in wheat over the next decade by increasing planted acreage and increasing yields.
The current research of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company (EMBRAPA) is focused on growing wheat in the Cerrado biome, adapting wheat to tropical climates, wind resistance and high yields
through genetic improvement and investment in the integration of soil, water, nutrients and seeds.
This will help the country increase wheat production
    by about 4 million tons.

    Wheat trade

Brazil imported 373,400 mt of wheat in September 2022, down 30%
from 536,700 mt in August, according to the Brazilian Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX).
Reasons for the lower imports include higher prices of wheat abroad, due to higher freight costs and the impact of the
    Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Between January and September 2022, Brazil imported 4.
8 million mt of wheat, nearly 6%
less than in the same period last year.

Wheat imports are expected to decline in 2022/23, but exports will strengthen

The Agricultural Counsellor expects Brazil's wheat imports to fall to 6.
    2 million mt in 2022/23, 3%
    below previous estimates.

Although Brazil produced a record wheat production in 2022/23, it was not enough to meet domestic demand
    .
However, with increased domestic production and strong demand from international markets, farmers expect more opportunities and better prices to export wheat
    .
