A paper published online november
suggests that medical research involving female researchers, especially those dominated by female researchers, is more likely to have potential gender differences in dealing with disease risk, prevention and treatment. This suggests that greater attention should be paid to the relationship between gender differences and research findings.
gender differences and socio-gender differences play an important role in disease risk, prevention and treatment. However, this issue is still not addressed in many areas of medical research, and understanding the underlying cultural determining factors of these differences should be a key one.
Nielsen and colleagues at Stanford University in California found a strong positive correlation between female authors and the likelihood that a study included gender-specific analysis. Using a sample of 1.5 million medical papers covering different disease topics, countries and medical research, the researchers compared the gender differences of the author group with the percentage of first authors and correspondents involved in studies that did not involve gender-specific analysis. It was found that there was a strong correlation between female authors and studies that included gender-specific analysis, and previous studies had shown gender differences in the fields of natural sciences and humanities and social sciences when people chose to study and work in scientific research and medicine.
the findings suggest that promoting gender diversity can help improve medical and health research results, the researchers said. (Source: Zhang Zhang, China Science Daily)
