Diabetes management is a topic
that endocrinologists always pay attention to.
As people explore the pathogenesis of diabetes, more and more truths emerge.

only, jump out of "blood sugar" to see diabetes management, November 12th!
Diabetes management is a topic
that endocrinologists always pay attention to.
As people explore the pathogenesis of diabetes, more and more truths emerge.
Exploration 1: Obesity and Diabetes
3% and 45.
4%, respectively [1].
So does weight management help with diabetes management? Multiple studies give us hope
.
- The Finnish DPS study [2] showed that intervention for 3-4 years reduced the relative risk of glucose tolerance progression to type 2 diabetes by 5%,
a low-fat diet, calorie restriction, dietary fiber intake, and exercise.
- The DiRECT study [3] was conducted by stopping antidiabetic and antihypertensive medications, comprehensive dietary replacement (825–853 kcal/day formula) for 3–5 months, and a stepped resumption diet (2–8 weeks).
Interventions for people with overweight/obese type 2 diabetes and structured support to maintain weight
.
In the first year of the study, 46% of patients in the intervention group achieved diabetes remission, and remission was strongly associated with weight loss, with an average weight loss of 10 kg
from baseline.
Research suggests that weight management can bring benefits
to both diabetes prevention and diabetes management.
But why is weight management a help for diabetes management? What is the relationship between type 2 diabetes and energy metabolism? How can clinical help patients manage weight?
Exploration 2: Heart and kidney protection in diabetics
.
- Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of diabetes morbidity and mortality, and life expectancy is reduced by about 12 years in people with diabetes with cardiovascular disease [4].
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) occurs in 10.
8% of Chinese adults, and diabetes is an important factor in this burden [5].
The rapid increase in the incidence of diabetes in China in recent years also means that the demand for the treatment of progressive renal failure is increasing [5].
By delaying the progression of complications in patients with type 2 diabetes, reducing disability and mortality, thereby improving the quality of life and prolonging life [6] is an important direction of diabetes management, and the comprehensive management of sugar, heart and kidney has become a new "clinical proposition"
.
In recent years, the emergence of new drugs has provided a powerful means for the comprehensive management of diabetic patients and has also been recognized by the guidelines [6].
The Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (2020 Edition) clearly state [6] that regardless of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c ) Whether the level is met, patients with type 2 diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), ASCVD high risk, heart failure, or CKD are recommended to first combine a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) with evidence of benefit from CVD and CKD or sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i).
So, is the comprehensive management of sugar, heart and kidney so simple? Do a good job in the comprehensive management of sugar, heart and kidney, what else can we do?
On November 12, the Lilly Institute of Metabolism Summit will be held
in many places across the country.
At the meeting, endocrinology, cardiology and renal experts from all over the world gathered together to share three topics: "type 2 diabetes and energy metabolism", "weight management for type 2 diabetes patients", and "comprehensive management of sugar heart and kidney", which will go deep into the clinic and stay close to the frontier
.
In the new era of diabetes management, the excitement is not to be missed!
