November 6, the herders of Tangula Mountain Town took a two-hour bus ride from the pastoral area at an altitude of 4,700 meters to the Luhe Railway Station and a six-hour train to tanggura Mountain Town Health Hospital on the southern outskirts of Guermu City, Qinghai Province. Listen to the villagers say, today there is a free medical check-up for local herders, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease can be found out, as well as experts to do health advice and dietary guidance.
On the same day, the "Rural Medical Community Health Line" project supported by the Ed Foundation, sponsored by the Guermu City Health Planning Bureau and co-sponsored by Qinghai University Medical College, was launched in Tangula Mountain Town, Guermu City, to provide free consultation and food health education for the town's adult residents, as well as to provide free love kits for poor residents. Director Pan Weizhong of the Guermu Municipal Health and Planning Bureau, Secretary Zhao Shouyuan of Tanggurangshan Township, a team of experts in public health nutrition at Qinghai University School of Medicine, and representatives of the Ed Foundation attended the launch ceremony.
Tangula Mountain Town is located in the core area of Sanjiangyuan Sanctuary in Qinghai Province, with an average elevation of more than 4,700 meters, and is the highest town in the world, with a total population of more than 1,900 people. Due to the limitations of the natural environment and lifestyle changes, diabetes, obesity, blood lipid disorders and other chronic diseases gradually increased. However, herders know little about how to eat and exercise. In response to this situation, the Guermu City Health Planning Bureau introduced the Ed Foundation "Rural Medical" project, with the assistance of the Chinese Nutrition Society and Qinghai University School of Medicine, using the Chinese residents' dietary pagoda as a tool to provide health education to local herders. After the physical examination, the project undertaker, the Second People's Hospital of Guermu City, will also add the "Nutrition Physician's Recommendations" section to the medical report to advise and guide the residents' way of life.
, the city's health planning bureau, said that Guermu's unique natural geographical conditions, making all kinds of plateau diseases and chronic diseases more common. With limited health input, the sanitary system of the city of Guermu has basically solved the problem of basic medical care and basic public health for the people of all ethnic groups. However, as a high-altitude area, the health literacy of residents and even primary health care workers needs to be improved, and the prevention and control of chronic diseases in pastoral areas is difficult. It is hoped that the Government and various social resources will be more tilted towards the highland areas, especially in terms of local residents' dietary nutrition and health education and the upgrading of the capacity of primary health care workers.
Professor Wang Wei, an expert at Qinghai University School of Medicine, said that nutrition education and health promotion in the plateau region have a long way to go, and that the event, which focuses on the strength of the government, foundations, medical institutions and academic groups, is a useful attempt to explore nutrition education and prevention and control of chronic diseases in high-altitude pastoral areas. In particular, thanks to the training and support of the Chinese Nutrition Society for the local team at Qinghai University School of Medicine. It is hoped that more cooperation will be provided in the future to provide services to the people with nutritional and health needs in Qinghai Plateau.
