On April 26, Iluka Resources announced that it would restart the production of rutile in the second kiln of the Western Australia Capel Zirconium Titanium Project in advance, and re-plan the annual synthetic rutile production capacity, which is expected to be 190,000 tons.
At the beginning of 2021, due to the contract dispute with the titanium dioxide giant Chemours last year, its sales plan of 177,000 tons of synthetic rutile could not be reached, which was far lower than the sales volume of 207,000 tons in 2019.
Regarding Iluka’s zircon, rutile and synthetic rutile sales in the first quarter of this year, it increased by 29% over the fourth quarter of last year.
Iluka said that so far the company has signed 295,000 tons of rutile and synthetic rutile delivery contracts with customers, and also includes 30,000 tons of high-grade raw materials contracts.
