The Philippine government may nearly triple corn imports in the 2022-2023 marketing year to 1.
7 million tons
as a result of the Philippine government's corn import tariffs cut in order to ensure food supply stability and ease price pressures against the backdrop of global commodity price volatility, according to the Philippine Business Mirror on October 6.
Meanwhile, local maize production is expected to decline by 440,000 mt
y-o-y due to lower yields and smaller harvest acreage.
