html" class="zdbq" title="Export-related food information" target="_blank">export volume of Peruvian avocados in 2021 is expected to reach 450,000 tons, which is a 10% increase over 2020.
Statistics show that 2020 is a year of record high exports of Peruvian avocados.
The total export volume reached a record 410,436 tons, an increase of 30% year-on-year.
From the perspective of the cultivation of Peruvian avocados, the report predicts that the production of Peruvian avocados in 2021 will reach 560,000 tons.
The main varieties of avocado grown in Peru are Hass and Fuerte.
The former produces 95% of its output for export and the latter mainly supplies the local market.
At present, the planting area of avocado in Peru is about 35,000 hectares, of which 27,000 hectares have been certified for export.
Peruvian avocados are produced throughout the year, with the peak production period from April to June.
In terms of exports, more than 70% of Peru's avocado production is used for export.
Statistics in 2020 show that the main export destinations of Peruvian avocados are the Netherlands, the United States and Spain, and the exports of the three countries account for 51% of the total exports.
Another 9% is exported to Chile, 8% is exported to the UK, and the avocado exported to China accounts for 3%.

It is worth noting that Peru's agricultural exports have experienced a blowout growth in the past 20 years.
The export value has increased from US$645 million in 2000 to US$8 billion in 2020.
The reason is that the "Agricultural Promotion Law" (Agricultural Promotion Law) promulgated and implemented by the Peruvian government in 2000 played a very crucial role.
With the imminent implementation of the new agricultural promotion law at the end of 2020, some Peruvian avocado growers have to set their sights on neighboring Colombia and plan to expand the avocado planting to neighboring countries to reduce the pressure on the cost of avocado cultivation brought about by the implementation of the New Deal.
According to reports, many Peruvian avocado growers have contacted relevant authorities in Colombia to further investigate and evaluate whether the local soil, climate and other conditions in Colombia are suitable for the cultivation of Hass avocados.
The assessment also includes local packaging plants, ports, Logistics conditions and labor conditions.
In recent years, companies that already have plantations in Colombia, including Camposol, Danper, and Cerro Prieto, are also actively looking for opportunities to further expand their planting scale in Colombia.

China is the country with the fastest growing import volume of avocados.
According to statistics, the total volume of imported avocados in 2018 reached the highest volume of 44,000 tons in history, a significant increase of 37% over 2017.
Compared with the import volume of 31.
8 tons in 2011, it has increased by more than 1,000 times in seven years.
However, in 2019, the import volume of avocados returned to rationality, and the epidemic factors in 2020 caused the import volume of avocados to shrink further.
Even so, it is expected that the future development potential of imported avocados in the Chinese market is still huge.
At present, China's imports of avocados are mainly from Peru, Chile and Mexico.
In recent years, avocados from other countries have been allowed to enter China.
For example, countries such as New Zealand, the Philippines, California, and Kenya have gained access to avocados, but Peru is still China's main avocado supplier.
Taking 2019 as an example, Peru exported a total of 12,932 tons of avocados to China that year, accounting for about 40% of China's total avocado imports that year.
