Abbe refractometer is an instrument that can measure the refractive index and average dispersion of transparent, translucent liquids or solids (mainly to measure transparent liquids), if the instrument is connected to a thermostat, it can measure the refractive index
at a temperature of 0 °C-70 °C.
The refractive index and average dispersion are one of the important optical constants of substances, which can be used to understand the optical properties, purity, and dispersion size of
substances.
This instrument can measure the mass fraction (hammer Brix) of sucrose solution (0-95%, equivalent to a refractive index of 1.
333-1.
531).
Therefore, the instrument is widely used, and is one of
the commonly used equipment for related factories, schools and related scientific research in the petroleum industry, oil and grease industry, paint industry, daily chemical industry, sugar industry and geological survey.
Procedure Preparation (1) Before starting the measurement, the readings
must be calibrated with a standard specimen.
Add 1~2 drops of bromide to the polishing surface of the refractive prism, and then paste the polishing surface of the standard sample, when the reading field indicates the value on the standard sample, observe whether the light and dark dividing line in the telescope is in the middle of the crosshair, if there is a deviation, use a screwdriver to slightly rotate the screw in the small hole on Figure 7, with animal mirror deflection, so that the dividing line image is moved to the center of the crosshair, and the starting error of the indication value is reduced to small (including the operator's aiming error)
through repeated observation and correction.
After the correction is completed, it is not allowed to move this part
at will during subsequent measurements.
If in daily work, there is doubt about the measured refractive index indication, you can use a standard sample to test according to the above method to see if there is a starting error and calibrate
.
(2) Before each measurement work and when calibrating the indication, the rough surface of the incoming prism, the polishing surface of the refractive prism and the polishing surface of the standard sample must be gently wiped clean with anhydrous alcohol and (1:4) mixture and skim cotton, so as not to leave other substances, affecting the clarity of imaging and measurement accuracy
.
