There was a counterfeit nine-valent cervical cancer vaccine (HPV vaccine) incident in Hong Kong the year before.

In mid-2019, a private medical institution in Hong Kong was revealed to be suspected of providing counterfeit HPV vaccines.

From May to September of that year, the Department of Health conducted an average of 24.

The Office of The Ombudsman put forward four recommendations in the report, including: closely observing the effectiveness of strengthened regulatory measures and making adjustments as needed; incorporating the supply and demand of pharmaceutical products in the market as a risk assessment factor of the Department of Health’s market monitoring mechanism; reviewing major issues Mechanisms for the release of relevant information on pharmaceutical product incidents; and to increase the transparency of information on newly introduced vaccines.

In an interview with a reporter from China News Agency, Chairman of the Hong Kong Medical Staff Federation, Pan Pei-chuan, said that it was impossible to accept illegal imports or counterfeit vaccines appeared in Hong Kong.
