Despite decades of advocacy campaigns that have linked skin cancer and aging in many countries

La Roche-Posay Laboratories and Ipsos surveyed 17,000 people in 17 countries, including 6,000 from the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Russia

Other myths include thinking that cloudy weather doesn't require sun protection, and if you're already tanned, you don't need sun

Respondents from non-European countries such as North America, South America, Africa, Oceania and Asia were slightly less enthusiastic about tanning than Europeans, with 67 percent finding tanning attractive and 59 percent finding it healthy

Although 92% of Europeans (86% of people outside Europe) know that the sun causes skin aging, 84% admit that they are not protecting themselves throughout the year (79% of people outside Europe).

Lead researcher Professor Thierry Passeron commented on the findings: "This study shows how entrenched

"We have to make people aware that exposure to the sun can cause damage to skin cells, which can lead to photoaging and skin cancer

The survey also showed that only 56% of Europeans know that sun protection is useful on cloudy days (64% outside Europe), and a quarter (24%) believe it is safe to go out without sun protection when they are already tanned (21% outside Europe).

Only one in ten (10%) of Europeans said they regularly or regularly used various forms of sun protection, such as wearing sunscreen throughout the year, staying in the shade, wearing hats and protective clothing, compared with 14%

"The public must also understand that they need to protect their skin year-round, even in cloudy conditions

According to the latest estimates, about 1.
