A recent study published online in
magazine looked at the structure of the γ-amino butyric acid type A (GABA-A) subject, which regulates a variety of medical drugs and drugs and is a therapeutic target for neurological disorders and mental illness. The researchers say the findings could help develop drugs to treat these diseases in the future.
inhibitory nerve transfer in the brain is mainly mediated by the neurotransmitter GABA and its synological target GABA-A. GabA-A mediators have an important effect on mental activity in the central nervous system and can cause diseases such as epilepsy, anxiety and insomnia if they develop functional abnormalities. The subject is also a target for barbitodes, narcotic drugs, ethanol, benzodiazepines such as dicazepam and aptolone.
Ryan Hibbs and colleagues at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center used cryoscopes to determine the structure of GABA-A receptors in combination with GABA and fluoxemazinib (drug overdose antidotes) and to illustrate how benzodiazepines affect the receptor. They also revealed locations that may represent specific interfaces between GABA-subject protein substases that may represent potential drug development targets.
study is expected to further improve understanding of members of the cysteine-ring receptor family and help develop drugs that target GABA-A receptors. (Source: Lu Yi, China Science Daily)
