A new paper reports on the manufacture of an impressive hydrophobic and solvent-resistant fluosiloxane coating, a special protective coating that is expected to be used on printed circuit boards.
a new type of UV-curable methyl acrylic hydromassin resin (MAFSR) and -based hydrogenic fluorosiloxane resin (SFSR) were synthesized. Molecular structure, ultraviolet curing process, thermal and surface properties are studied and
. Further applications as protective coatings in the field of printed circuit boards (PCBs) are explored.
excellent hydrophobic
results show that MAFSRs with SFSRs of more than 30 wt% have a high carbon-carbon dual bond conversion rate of more than 95% after 15 s of UV exposure. In addition, the surface of the coating can be as low as 11.5 mN / m, showing excellent hydrophobicity. The XPS results further reveal that the migration and orientation of fluoro-based groups to the surface are the underlying causes of low surface energy. In addition, the coating exhibits excellent heat and solvent resistance. Studies have shown that UV-cured fluosiloxane resins are expected to be promising PCB-specific protective coatings.
paper was published in July 2020 in volume 144 of Organic Coatings Progress.
