Water-based epoxy coatings, as an important part of them, are particularly concerned by technicians.
The traditional flow aid represented by the connective fluidizer in the water-based epoxy coating, often under the influence of amines, lost the co-operation, can not provide a good anti-flow hanging performance, while the water-based epoxy coating because of the cost and performance of the impact on the solid content and film thickness also has a higher requirements, the traditional liquid fluid flow aid is difficult to meet such a demanding performance .

In order to fundamentally improve the above shortcomings, BIK Chemical has developed a new product, RHOBYK-440, based on liquid polyamide technology. RHEOBYK-440 consists of a polyamide skeleton, a compatible ethylene oxide, and a rheumor-enhanced group, as shown in the figure below.
Usually research and development personnel in the selection of fluidizers, need to consider the two aspects of production and construction, coatings should have good mobility, easy to produce, filling, the need for the paint cut viscosity is low, but also to have a good flow-hanging performance, which requires the paint's low shear viscosity is high. The RHEOBYK-440 fully meets the above requirements.

When the A, B parts are mixed, the traditional connective fluidizers (e.g. C1, C2, C3) are affected by the amine parts, the low shear viscosity is low, and the viscosity is as high as 20938mPa.S when using the fluidizer to test 0.01/s. But the RHEOBYK-440 can reach 42,000mPa.S, which means that the RHEOBYK-440 has more than twice the anti-flow performance. The actual scraper flow hangs, which also confirms this.
other salt mist tests showed that RHOBYK-440 had no negative effect on corrosion resistance.
conclusion:
1. RHEOBYK-440 can give the water-based epoxy system better anti-flow performance.
2. Less increase in shear viscosity, no negative impact on paint production.
3. RHEOBYK-440 does not affect the corrosion resistance of the coating.
