"Sowing in early October, after 2 months of growth, the morels in the desert have been fruiting smoothly!"
On December 24th, Tan Hao, an associate researcher at the Edible Fungi Research Center of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, revealed to reporters a new technique for cultivation of Morchella: using desert sand instead of soil as the cultivation substrate for Morchella in Hexi, Gansu Good fruiting results were achieved in the desert in the corridor
Morchella generally grows in fertile soil rich in organic matter.
It turns out that in past research, Tan Hao found that the organic matter required for morel mushrooms to produce fruit mainly comes from exogenous nutrient bags rather than soil, and the humus in the soil is not the main nutrient required by morel mushrooms.
Prompted by the results of the previous research, Tan Hao was surprised to find that desert sand and semi-desert soil with less organic matter content theoretically have the conditions to be used as the cultivation substrate of Morchella, which is in line with the current mainstream cultivation techniques for Morchella tend to use organic matter.
Therefore, the team decided to find the answer in practice.
This year, the team cooperated with the arid area salinization research station of the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to demonstrate 24 acres of desert and semi-desert soil in Gulang County and Jingtai County in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu
"Right now is the season when the purchase price of morels and fresh mushrooms is relatively high, and the local people who make money are very happy
