The four brands of analytical instruments in this article refer to: Agilent, Shimadzu, Waters, and Thermo Fisher
    .

Below, according to the practical experience of technical engineers, from the four aspects of installation environment, communication method, compatibility, and ease of use, we will introduce the differences in the experience of using the old workstations of four brands of analytical instruments! Versions used: Agilent: HP3365 for 5890, HP3398 for 6890, G1701 BA for 5973; Shimadzu: Class VP for LC10, LC Solution for LC20A, GC/MS Solution for GC/MS2010PLUS; Waters: Empower, for Millennium Soon to be upgraded; Thermo Fisher: Xcalibur V1.
3, also seen the legendary V2.

    .

Requirements for the installation environment: HP3365 for 5890 can only be installed on WIN3.
X, but both in Chinese and English, the requirements are not high
    .

HP3398 can run on WIN98 and above, but I haven't tried it under WINXP.
    Basically, there are no requirements.
    G1701 can run on WIN98, NT4.
0 and later versions, both Chinese and English, but I haven't tried it under XP.
    over
    .

Class VP, I have only seen it running on Chinese WIN9X, I have not tried other OS, LC Solution and GC/MS Solution, all run under Chinese XP, I have not tried other OS
    .

Empower, WIN2000 and WIN XP can all run, and there is no limit to Chinese and English
    .

     Xcalibur V1.
3 can only run under WIN XP in English, and cannot open the Chinese language pack in WIN XP, otherwise it will be disconnected irregularly in the process of making samples.
    I haven't tried it on WIN2000
    .

In general, individuals who have requirements for the OS language think that they require Keke, while the requirements for the version are nothing.
After all, as long as they can run under the Chinese version of the OS, any version of the OS is easy to get.
And users are more familiar with it
    .

To sum up, among these 4 workstations, Thermo Fisher has the highest OS requirements, and the others are not too different
    .

EMPOWER and Xcalibur have the highest requirements for computer hardware.
EMPOWER clearly requires 512M of memory.
Xcalibur did not look at it in detail.
Ours is 1G, and the requirements are not low
    .

G1701 cannot run multimedia programs when it is running.
Even if you play a song or open a FLASH (with sound) page, the connection will be disconnected.
This has nothing to do with computer hardware and OS.
I have tried it on WIN2K, you must know that the old ben only has 48M memory and the P4 has 512M memory
    .

Probably because its 82341 card shares an IQR with the sound card
    .

Communication mode: HP3365 and G1701 are both IEEE standard communication cards, HP3398 is the most simple, serial port
    .

Class VP is communication card and CMB, LC Solution is Ethernet, but it needs to communicate with each module through CMB, GC/MS Solution, IEEE1394 general communication interface
    .

EMPOWER is the most complex, and different detectors have different communication methods.
There are IEEE standard communication cards, serial ports, startup signals and direct connection between modules
    .

Xcalibur is a pure Ethernet interface
    .

Personal point of view: It is most inconvenient to have dedicated communication cards (except 1394 and Ethernet cards), because the physical interfaces of communication cards in different periods are very different, and it will be very troublesome after the computer hardware fails, and sometimes not even.
    legal solution
    .

Compatibility with the instrument: Although the HP3365 has not been tried, it is not necessary to think that it will not support the instruments that it will produce in the future, not to mention the instruments of other manufacturers.
The HP3398 claims to support older instruments such as 5890, 1490, etc.
Using it to control the 5890 has no success at all, and there is no need to think about it from other manufacturers.
The G1701 can completely control the 5890.
I have verified this, but it does not seem to support other instruments
    .

LC SOLUTION can support LC10A and LC20A, but it needs CMB20.
The original CMB10 does not support it.
It is said that 2010 can also be used, but I don’t know how to implement it.
Is there any such thing as CMB; GC/MS Solution, I haven’t heard of it It can also support other instruments, and I have no chance to try it
    .

EMPOWER is said to support other devices, but I have never seen it
    .

Xcalibur can support many other instruments, but according to its manual, the control interface of other instruments needs to be modified from time to time.
I have seen Dian liquid under Xcalibu V2, which is realized by embedding a part of the chameleon into Xcalibu.
, I have no specific look at how the hardware interface is implemented
    .

In any case, I personally think that the compatibility of the workstation with its own instruments is more important, because it is related to the upgrade of the instrument or the addition of modules, especially the addition of modules in different periods is very common, and supporting other instruments is not enough for its own product line.
    compensation measures
    .

Ease of use: This question is hard to say, and individuals have personal experience
    .

I myself started with HP3365, and it took me a month of self-study to get to the point where I can make samples.
    HP3398 is basically used directly.
Although it has many types of files, it is very intuitive and easy to use.
G1701 because it involves To mass spectrometry, it is a little more complicated, but its file types are not as many as those of HP3398, only data files, method files and integration event files.
I have never used the report template, and the training has not been taught.
    Anyway, it is very complicated.
    Copy and paste the report
    .

In general, Agilent's workstations do not have a wizard, and it is difficult to get started, but it is easy to learn one, and the others are similar
    .

Class VP, I have no impression, LC SOLUTION, it is very simple to use, but I haven't made a report, GC/MS SOLUTION, I personally think it is the easiest, I can use it when I look at its FLASH, but the operation is too stupid and the function is average
    .

EMPOWER, the function is very powerful, but the general operation is also very simple, anyway, I am also self-taught, advanced functions have not been used or learned, both wizard and editing mode are supported
    .

Xcalibur, it is not difficult, I can do it after reading the manual for a week.
Both wizards and editors support it, but although the objects operated in these two modes are the same, the files and results generated are different and cannot be interoperable
    .
