Abnormal metabolism is one of the important characteristics of tumors
Recently, Zhang Huafeng's research group and Gao Ping's research group (now South China University of Technology) of the University of Science and Technology of China published online in Nature Cancerthe latest research results titled ENO1 suppresses cancer cell ferroptosis by degrading the mRNA of iron regulatory protein 1, reporting ENO1 as The mechanism by which RNA binding protein degrades mRNA has clarified that ENO1 binds to and degrades the mRNA of ironregulatory protein 1 (IRP1 ) gene, thereby regulating the metabolic homeostasis of iron ions in cells, affecting iron death and promoting the occurrence and development of liver cancer.
In this study, the author first discovered that ENO1, which is highly expressed in liver cancer cells, can function as RNA binding protein ( RNA binding protein, RBP ).
