Bangladesh's government will allow commercial farming of non-native vannamei shrimp because experimental farming at three farms along the southern coast of Bangladesh has shown that yields are several times
higher than locally farmed black tiger shrimp, Bangladesh's Daily Star newspaper reported on January 6.
Amin Ulllah, chairman of the Bangladesh Frozen Food Exporters Association, said allowing commercial farming of vannamei would double the revenue from shrimp exports within five years
