Thailand’s Kaitai Research Center reported that the export situation of Thai fruits, especially fresh fruits, was good in 2021.
This is reflected in the year-on-year growth rate of Thailand’s fresh fruit exports in US dollars from January to July this year by 54.
    9%.
Promotion of mangosteen export volume .
Mangosteen, known as the “Queen of Thai Fruits”, has always been the third largest export economic fruit variety with good export growth in Thailand .
From January to July of 2021, the export value of mangosteen grew by more than 21.
    8% year-on-year.
This was due to the support of foreign market demand leading to high export prices, but at the same time the decrease in export volume was due to supply disruption caused by the epidemic .

The Kaitai Research Center believes that the export value of Thai mangosteen from September to December 2021 will slow down as the number of listings decreases compared with the previous period, especially the peak period of listing from June to August.
At the same time, the supply interruption caused by the epidemic will only cause short-term problems.
    Sexual effects will improve afterwards
    .
Foreign market demand may be able to boost the export price of mangosteen, but it still cannot make up for the reduced supply due to seasonal factors
    .
Therefore, the Kaitai Research Center predicts that the total export value of Thailand's mangosteen in 2021 will be approximately US$540-560 million, a year-on-year increase of 14.
    6-18.
8%, mainly due to export prices
    .

In terms of market competition, although Thailand will face greater challenges from its main competitor, Indonesia, participating in the competition for market share in China, Thailand can still occupy the largest share of the Chinese market because of the unique taste of Thai mangosteen and Thailand is very familiar with the Chinese fruit market.
It has competitive advantages in price, and Thailand's geographical location is close to China and transportation is convenient and fast.
Mangosteen can maintain its freshness and quality
    .

It is worth noting that in the past three years (2018-2020), the production of mangosteen in Indonesia has been supported by official policies and has grown rapidly.
In 2020, it has been close to Thailand's 320,000 tons, but it is mainly for domestic sales
    .
At present, Thailand’s mangosteen export volume is 6 times higher than that of Indonesia.
If Indonesia can rapidly increase its export volume in the future, it may still affect Thailand’s future competitiveness
    .

The Kaitai Research Center believes that the most urgent need to solve is the supply interruption problem
    .
Although its impact is only short-term, if it is solved well, the experience of solving the problem of mangosteen supply interruption can help solve the shortage of labor for harvesting other vegetables/fruits in the next season to avoid repeating the same mistakes
    .
Officials should play an important role in promoting and systematically deploying labor resources, including providing labor cost support and developing agricultural harvesting skills suitable for each region
    .

As for the medium-term issue, the Kaitai Research Center believes that Thailand’s sustainable competitiveness in the international market should be actively improved, while accelerating the development of high-quality mangosteen varieties that can maintain high yields while applying new age agricultural technology to help increase the yield and quality of mangosteen.
Including improving the efficiency level of planting, maintenance and preservation
    .
At the same time, mangosteen processing also plays an important role in adding value to products, increasing product diversification, and upgrading products to high-quality health foods
    .
In addition, Thailand should expand exports to other potential markets, such as the United States, and stimulate domestic demand to ensure that Thai mangosteen can continue to grow and maintain its status as an important economic fruit in Thailand and the “Queen of Thailand” favored by international consumers
