Tanzania's Agriculture Minister Bashi said that the above forecast is based on the fact that Tanzania's food crop exports have grown significantly over the past three years compared with traditional crop.
Tanzania's food crop exports increased from US$743 million in 2020 to US$192 billion in 2021, an increase of 253.
Among them, the export value of rice increased from $147 million to $309 million, an increase of 110%, and the export value of cocoa, beans and corn increased from $335 million to $512 million, an increase of 55.
In addition, exports of horticultural crops (vegetables and fruits) increased by 31% from $271 million to $373 millio.
But exports of traditional crops fell 23% from $809 million in 2020 to $627 million in 2021. Exports of only four traditional crops maintained growth: cloves (up 209%), sisal (up 18%), coffee (up 9%) and tea (up 5%.
The export value of cashew nuts fell from $356 million in 2020 to $159 million in 2021, a decrease of 58%; the value of tobacco exports fell from $147 million to $125 million, a decrease of 13%; the value of cotton exports fell from $85 million to $85 million million, a decrease of 1.
