Recently, the Chinese honeybee utilization and ecology team of the Bee Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences analyzed the difference in the expression of olfactory receptor genes between worker and male bees through high-throughput sequencing and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR

The olfactory system is essential for bees to adapt to complex and changeable environments, and plays a vital role
in bees' collection, mating and avoiding predators.
In bee colonies, although the biological functions of the worker bees and male bees are different, their perception of odor mainly occurs in the antennae
of the head.

of the head.
In this study, Illumina sequencing technology was used to analyze the antennae transcriptomes of Chinese honey bee worker bees and male bees, and a total of 5262 genes with different expression and 242 olfactory-related genes were identified, and it was found that the number of olfactory-related genes expressed in the antennae of worker bees was higher than that of male bees
。 Then, RT-qPCR was used to analyze the expression profiles of the odor receptor genes expressed by six male bees in different tissues and in worker and male bees of different ages, and the results showed that the expression level of these genes in antennae was significantly higher than that in other tissues, and the expression levels of these six genes were significantly different
in worker bees and male bees at different ages.
This study provides basic data for understanding the difference between the olfactory perception of Chinese honey bee worker bees and male bees, and is helpful to further understand the olfactory mechanism
of Chinese honey bees.
