Wang Ruijiang, a researcher at the
Plant Science Research Center of the South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, discovered an unknown plant species during an investigation in the Guangdong coastal area. With the assistance of local plant enthusiasts, "Bull Brother", after many field collection and observation, morphological characteristics comparison and molecular systems research, it was finally determined that it is a new genus of rat Lico plant - Fenghwaia. The study was published recently in Plant Bonds, a leading journal of plant taxonomy.
According to the introduction, the seal wood genus is a unique single species of plants in China, named after Mr. Chen, a famous plant taxonomist who made important contributions to the creation and development of China's modern botanical gardens, and to express his feelings of remembrance on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his birth.
is a small tree, growing in the valley forest along the coast of Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province. In morphology, the plant has the characteristics of "lower room, 3 rooms, each room with 1 embryo bead, fruit extension and has 5 vertical ridges, seed flat circle and has extension and obvious appendages at the base" and is significantly different from other genus plants of rat Liko. Molecular systems studies have shown that the sealwood genus is a member of the "Rat Li Group Rhamnoid Group" and is closely related to the Rat Li Rhamneae plant.
is the 17th genus of rat Liko and the only single genus currently found in Asia. The discovery of this genus not only enriches the diversity of plant species in China, but also highlights the importance of basic investigation and research. In addition, the discovery and publication of envelope wood is of great scientific value for the study of the systematic development and biometrics of rat Lico plants.
