On October 31, the South African Grape Industry Association (SATI) released the results of the first assessment of the quarter, which expects export inspections in the 2022/23 season to decrease by about 7.
    65%
    compared with last year.

South African raison production is expected to be 71.
    7 million cases (4.
5 kg/carton) for the season, fluctuating between 69.
    55 million cases and 73.
85 million cases, down 6 million cases from 77.
    7 million cases
    in the previous season.
Production is expected to decrease by 12-17% in the Orange River and the Northern Provinces, and by 4%-6%
in the Olefinz, Berg and Heck rivers.
In the last quarter, the Orange and Heck rivers saw the largest
    increase in production.

If the historical trend between inspection volumes and export volumes were to be repeated, the total amount of lifts actually exported would be less than 70 million boxes
    .

Although more high-yielding new varieties are in full production this season, various factors point to the result of
    lower yields.
Among them, the planted area fell by 1% to 20,379 hectares, and the area fully put into production also decreased by 1% to 18,765 hectares
    .

Considering logistics factors, the South African grape industry pays more attention to grape quality and crop load management (reducing fruit hanging volume) to adapt to expected logistics transportation times
    .
At the same time, it is expected that the number of grapes sold to South Africa will increase, and the proportion of grapes used to produce raisins will also increase
    .

SATI's official assessment results have maintained a high degree of accuracy over the past 6 years, and the expected figures are not much
different from the final export inspection volume.
The results of this season's first assessment are a combination of factors, and numbers are subject to change
