On June 25, Shanghai Pharmaceuticals announced that Xinyi Wanxiang, a subsidiary of the company, received the "Drug Supplementary Application Approval Notice" issued by the State Drug Administration for metronidazole tablets.

Metronidazole tablets are mainly used to treat and prevent infections identified or suspected to be caused by anaerobic bacteria; it has inhibitory activity against a variety of pathogenic microorganisms, especially Bacteroides, Fusobacterium, Clostridium, Eubacteria, Peptococcus, Peptostreptococcus, anaerobic cocci and Gardnerella vaginalis; also treats Trichomonas, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia, Colonic ciliates and Dracunculiasis Role
