They found in preclinical studies:

-After excluding the mTOR in the placenta, the female offspring have a lower birth weight, and the risk of obesity and insulin resistance increases in adulthood

-In contrast, after increasing mTOR signals in the placenta, female adult offspring are protected from obesity caused by a high-fat diet

Brian Akhaphong said: "The causal relationship between placental mTOR and the metabolic health of offspring has never been tested before.

The research team will continue their research to explore which metabolic tissues of the offspring are permanently affected by the placental mTOR signal
