Recently, the International Mycological Association published in its journal IMA Fungus the news and speech that researcher Bai Fengyan of the Institute of Microbiology won the Johanna Westerdijk Award
.
At the end of April 2022, researcher Bai Fengyan won this award
at the "the Rise of the Fungi" academic symposium held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
In their acceptance speech, the jury spoke about the reasons for awarding the Westerdijk Prize to Bai: "Because he preserved a large number of yeasts in the culture collection, thus ensuring that these fungi could be studied
by future generations.
These cultures were collected over many years by pouring time and resources into him and his team
.
As a member of the mycology community, we thank him for building this incredible resource base and are confident that future scholars will continue to evolve
on this excellent platform.
" ”
The award is a scientific prize selected and presented by the Westerdijk Institute for Fungal Biodiversity (formerly CBS) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW) to recognize outstanding contributions to the preservation of CBS cultures and outstanding
achievements in mycological research.
