Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a blood system disease with a very poor prognosis.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a blood system disease with a very poor prognosis.
An invasive iliac bone biopsy can be used to quantify angiogenesis and the number of bone marrow cells, but this protocol can lead to incorrect results due to sampling bias.
Recently, a study published in the journal Radiology explored whether bone marrow IVIM parameters can predict the overall survival (OS) of newly diagnosed AML patients, providing a valuable reference for early clinical, accurate and non-invasive assessment of the prognosis of AML patients.
This prospective study continuously recruited newly diagnosed AML patients between July 2014 and March 2016.
A total of 53 patients (mean age 42±17 years; 30 men) were evaluated in this study.

This study shows that a higher f value and a lower D value of IVIM MRI parameters indicate a poor prognosis for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and the f value is an independent predictor of overall survival.
