MRA Klement GmbH was founded in the early 80s of the 20th century to serve the motorsport sector
.
It also gets its name: MRA stands for Motorcycle Racing Accessories
.
In the early years, MRA's products included racing paneling, windshields and hump seats
.
At the end of the 80s, the MRA company specialized in the development and production
of motorcycle windshields.
HandySCAN 3D, a portable 3D scanner for metrology
MRA has been using the HandySCAN 307, a metrology-grade portable 3D scanner, to scan motorcycle fairing panels and their edges and holes
.
In addition, they use it to scan the connection points
on motorcycles used to install fixing plates.
These were scanned when the motorcycle was a "naked car" without paneling
.
They then use 3D printing technology to make prototypes and try them out on motorcycles to check how well they fit the motorcycle, fasten it, and are suitable for road.
Modifications can be easily made
on a computer.
If everything is suitable, a mold can be made and mass production
can begin.

If everything is suitable, a mold can be made and mass production
can begin.
Previously, MicroScribe was used to collect data on connection points on decorative panels and panels, which led to inaccurate data because it could only collect information that was being checked, not what
was around it.
The resulting 3D printed prototypes were not always ideal, so the corresponding motorcycles had to be sent back for rework
repeatedly.
This has also led to an increase
in the number of 3D prints.
Therefore, before purchasing a 3D scanner, the technology they used before required a lot of manual work and time to make the mold.
This requires them to do more trial and error and make adjustments
.
As a result, MRA began looking for a technology product
capable of detecting reflective and translucent surfaces.
They hope that this technology product will improve efficiency and minimize the time
they spend on surface treatment.
Creaform's metrology-grade portable 3D scanner, HandySCAN 3D, helped them solve these problems
.
It improves the product development process
by quickly and accurately capturing information about assembly points and their surroundings in real time.
This ensures that all 3D printed prototypes fit perfectly with the motorcycle the first time they are printed, avoiding multiple rework
.
What finally convinced them?
After understanding the experience of existing Creaform users and the price-performance ratio of Creaform's equipment, MRA Klement decided to purchase a portable laser 3D scanner, the HandySCAN 3D
.
Setup is fairly simple and easy to use
.
Even transparent surfaces such as windshields can be scanned
with the HandySCAN 307.
However, as with any other scanning solution on the market, transparent parts
must be treated with scanning powder.
For this, there are specialized solutions on the market, for example, the spray disappears automatically after a certain period of time, leaving no residue on the components or causing any damage
to them.
This is one of
the factors that MRA Klement values the most.
Advantages of portable measuring systems
With the portable laser 3D scanner HandySCAN 307, MRA is now able to create electronic imagesof motorcycles and components faster and more accurately.
Using a 3D scanner ensures that the first printed prototype matches the motorcycle
exactly.
This avoids time-consuming rework
.
Motorcycles no longer need to be sent back to the company frequently, which saves a lot of time and tiring
to and from the trip.
As a result, it is now easier to create and save the data required by the
German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kraftfahrtbundesamt, KBA).
The company also plans to simulate the project in CAD, as the entire motorcycle can now be scanned
.
This is a huge advantage for MRA companies, helping them to provide a visual representation
for future customers.
3D scanning technology is often used
.
Without it, it is still possible to implement these projects, but it will cost more time and money
.
The accuracy of the prototype will also be greatly reduced
.
In addition, more trials are needed to correct for errors
.
"Now we simply can't imagine what it's like to live without a 3D scanner every day
.
As they say, it is already a 'very advanced technological product'
.
3D measurement equipment is often used
.
It is used to scan new motorcycle models or their accessories to manufacture aftermarket products
.
This technology greatly reduces the burden on our development department, increasing their efficiency, precision and professionalism, while also reducing their work, time and resulting costs
.
